Printer

I use a brother DCP-135C printer.
I am unable to see how to install or set up the printer in Salix.
Files appear to be missing (dependencies?) and I am unable to see where they are or find out how to locate them.
The printer works all OK in windows XP.
But I prefer Salix of course. :)
Is there some repository where suitable software might be available?
I could buy a different printer if that would be easier to set up.
Thank you.

Does this topic offer any help?

I've always used HP printers myself, so I can't say much more.

In order to configure CUPS (printers) one can access it with a browser using http://localhost:631/

Did you manage to install it afterall ?
The rpm provided by Brother, alienized (converted) to .tgz should work as it is mainly wrapper scripts and not binaries.

Not yet.
Thank you for all the advice, which I have followed as best I can.
It appears the computer sends pages to the printer.
The message at the printer is "receiving" or a similar message.
However, after that the printer just sits there.
I have read of the very same 'fault' in other forums, experienced by users with other systems.
I have yet to see a fix or reason for this on those other systems.
For the moment I am reverting to WinXP for printing only.
Also, I am taking note of other brands of printers which appear to allow easier setup.
After 8 years of linux, and trying out over a hundred different 'flavours' of linux, I have settled on Salix as the best overall system.
So I will keep trying with the printer until I can understand and fix it. *smile*
As an aside, you would consider me an elderly person. But I am alert, and can type at close to 100 wpm when I need to.
Thank you all for your help.

Hi, and thanks for all the information.
I am still following this along, bit by bit, and learning as I go.
I never give up.
Every day is a learning day.
I hope I am successful before the printer becomes totally obsolete. :D
Always easy when you know how, but difficult when you lack the expertise.
Thank you once again.
