Reporting bug in Wicd when connecting to encrypted WPA wireless networks.
Environment:
Salix XFCE 13.37 installed from Live Disk.
Wireless Chipset: Intel Pro 4965 AGN on a Dell D630 Latitude
Test 1: Start up, login. Wicd-gtk launches. Click on it to configure initial connection details for wireless WPA network. Click Properties on network. Enter WPA key. Click OK.
Result: Nothing happens. Window does not close and key does not save. Click top right X to close the window out, Wicd-gtk crashes.
Test 2: open console. Start wicd-gtk. Click on network to configure intial connection details for wireless WPA network. Click Properties on network. Enter WPA key. Click OK.
Result: Nothing happens. Window does not close and key does not save. Numerous DBUS errors and python errors appear in console window (output available upon request). Click top right X to close window out, Wicd-gtk crashes with 'segmentation fault' in console.
Errata: I have a network at work that has NO encryption and this worked fine on a wireless network without encryption. I also plugged in a wired connection and it handled it just fine without crashing.

Re: Wicd 1.7.2.4-i486-1_slack13.37 Segmentation Fault/Crash
I updated the wicd package in our repositories. The slackware package is broken.

I noted gapan exhibited notable restraint in not saying "I told you so"

thanks a bunch. I got confirmation from drc online that he couldn't setup WEP either just as tack on to the original bug report.gapan wrote:I updated the wicd package in our repositories. The slackware package is broken.
