[SOLVED] Mate and package sources

I downloaded and compiled a package using the Sourcery app. Now gslapt is telling me that it wants to "upgrade" the app by installing an earlier version.
I'm a tad confused.
[Edit] To clarify a few things. Obviously Sourcery is using newer code sources than gslapt. I know how to add exceptions to gslapt to avoid triggering 'the upgrade that is a downgrade' issue. My main question is - is this a potential issue for the core system? Would it be better to not use Sourcery and just stick to the Salix packages only? Or is locally compiled always best? Or is my thinking about gslapt just too influenced by Synaptic/Yum?
