Hi! I am thinking in buying an SSD drive 60Gb to install Salix. I would like to ear from you about SSD drives and things to do about installing Salix on it. Thanks!

what exactly are you after?

I installed Salix on a SSD 60GB with my new desktop PC (8 month ago).
It is fast, makes no noise...it runs 24/7 (almost). Sure I don't move much files to and from the SSD,
but so far, all is well.
It behaves like an ordinary HD in that respect...so it does when installing Salix. There was nothing specific to do for it.

I've got an SSD in my desktop/server (24/7) and in my notebook. I don't want to live without it anymore: less boot time (notebook), apps are starting faster (both), less noise (notebook), more battery life (notebook).
Of course I have a HDD in my desktop for my data.

This should improve performance, just read it. No idea if this is still valid with recent tools. I've aligned my partitions on my notebook but not on my desktop.

I remember reading about not installing certain filesystems that has journalling thus reducing ssd lifetime. I'm certain i read it here.

For those of you who have ssd drives what filesystem did you choose?

It's also possible to disable the journal e.g. for ext4: http://fenidik.blogspot.de/2010/03/ext4 ... urnal.html
Be aware that disabling journal also it reduces wear and improves perfomance has a negative impact on data integrity in case of power outages or any other crashes.

Well,

I use XFS file system. Its seems to be the preferred choice in Salix and I am happy with it since I started with XFS in Zenwalk 4.x or so.

The little that I've read two filesystems are advised , ext4 and btrfs. It's in one of the links above from wikipedia. They are a very nice reading.

btrfs is not stable yet. Don't use it for sensitive data.

I'm using ext4 for quite everything. Btrfs only for USB sticks (data is not sensible there).
