Well well, unless I'm equivocated, I'm amazing to notice that there's only the 'screenshots' thread. But I'd like to go one step beyond and ask:

What do you do to make the standard Salix OS 'yours'? Do you use a custom Lilo splash and/or Login theme? Do you mess up with the default bash scripts? What extra programs do you install?

At the moment my desktop consists mainly of additional stuff:
DE: Openbox + tint2 + gmrun + openbox-menu
Browser: Google Chrome
Terminal: Konsole
Music: mpd + gmpc and cantata
Stats: Gkrellm

My preferred WM is Ratpoison, so there wouldbe *no* point in a screenshot. Although you don't see the wallpaper much - or perhaps because of that - I do notice it at boot, and at the moment I've got a drawing a friend of ours made of our street.

Beyond that, everything's in the customisation. For instance, like most Ratpoison users, I have set a single key instead of the default Ctrl-t to issue a command. Instead of opening a terminal, I use a custom command to run screen -DR in a terminal. ls is configured to give colour-coded output. I have a single keystroke shortcut to my Chinese character learning flashcards (Wenlin, with Wine).

Then there are a few apps such as par, unclutter or antiword to facilitate a certain style of working. ratpoison's default browser is Vimprobable, but for sites that work better with Firefox, I have Pentadactyl - and AdBlock Plus, of course. (For Vimprobable, I use Privoxy.) If I want to look at a clock (I'd rather not have it there all the time, counting away the seconds), there is xclock.

For days or hours with the prospect of heavy mouse usage (such as working with libreoffice), or just for a change, I use Salix Openbox Beta If a friend with a fast machine lets me, I use Maté
