upside-down cheese

Post by witek »

Hi,

I`ve just installed cheese on my laptop and cheese shows image upside-down. Any idea how to fix that?
It also does not have its icon in Salix->Multimedia menu.

Is it only in cheese or does the webcam work like that anyway? It appears that some webcams are actually mounted upside-down in some laptops (link). If it's only in cheese, or if you only care about cheese, there is an upside-down plugin in there. If it's a more general problem, then I have seen reports that

Code: Select all

echo 0 >/sys/class/video4linux/video0/vflip
or

Code: Select all

echo 1 >/sys/class/video4linux/video0/vflip
might work. Other than that you can hold your laptop upside down. :D

And the icon is there, xfce just takes a long time to realize it is.

I tested Ubuntu and Fedora`s cheese and it works OK. It seems only salix has the problem.

Unfortunately there is no such file 'vflip'. I tried to create it as root but I couldn`t :(

It's not a problem with cheese, it's a problem with your webcam/driver. What kernel version are they using? Maybe if you compiled a newer kernel it would work.
