Hello, I have just installed the tgz package using the relevant Slackbuild and install went fine. Unfortunately it seems the plugin is not working as it should. The terminal keeps giving this output
[131:943] Warning(clientchannel.cc:435): Unreadable or no port file. Could not initiate GoogleTalkPlugin connection
[131:944] Warning(clientchannel.cc:410): Could not initiate GoogleTalkPlugin connection
Are there any particular settings I hve to modify in order to make the plugin work?
Currenly running it on Salix 13.0.2. xfce.
Thanks for support and understanding.

Update: there must be something wrong with this plugin as since installation Firefox kept crashing just when I was trying to navigate to any other site which was not Salix website. I removed the plugin and Firefox is now working fine again.

I was thinking to use google hangouts to talk with friends/relatives when I'm abroad. To me, it could become a better solution than skype since everyting is run within the browser. As for the Slackuild I have used the slackbuild for the 13.37 (
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37 ... alkplugin/).
Could this be a reason why the plugin is not working (though it had installed without problem) since I am still on 13.0.2?

Oh, it's a firefox plugin then? Can't you install it from the browser's plugin window? If you can't, that's probably a good indication that it's not usable/supported anymore.

Actually it's not a firefox plugin. It's a specific package which can retrieved on Google's website. The Slackbuild only repackages a .deb file with the most updated version of the plugin.
This is the short description that came within the Slackbuild.
Google TalkPlugin (Google Voice and Video Browser Plugin)
google-talkplugin: Google TalkPlugin enables Voice and Video chat right from Gmail,iGoogle, and orkut.
: This is a binary repackage.
As far as I know once installed the plugin may be enabled/disabled by listing the about:plugins on browser url bar. My problem is
1-plugin gets installed and enabled but does not run correctly (running Opera browser)
2-soon after I have installed the plugin each time I opened Firefox trying to reach any website (exept Salix) browser would crash and close. Removing the plugin solved the issue with Firefox.
So far using Opera the plugin seems to be having installed properly but does not work the way it should. Could the reason be I have used a 13.37 Slackbuild on a 13.0.2?
Thanks, regards
Antonio

You're using a binary for a different distribution. There is no way anyone can guarantee that it will work. Maybe if you've used a newer Salix it would work, only just because the system would be closer to what the binaries expect (a recent deb-based distribution, with recent being the important word). But maybe it still won't. If there is source code for that plugin, you could probably be able to compile it. If there isn't, that's just what you get with proprietary software.

Thanks for reply Gapan,
I will try to test the plugin under a 13.37 (or with the 14 rc3) install.
Cheers,
