Skype is not available in 64bits. You can either:

1. Ask Microsoft for a 64bit linux binary
2. Install multilib and then install a 32bit skype
3. Hunt down for a 32bit skype package that has every single 32bit library that it needs bundled. I know there is one mentioned in the linuxquestions.org forum somewhere. This will work in a 64bit system
4. Install a 32bit Salix and install skype

If you Google Skype + Linux 64bit you will find nemerous articles on how to achieve this.

Read through this page. It's long, but really straightforward (just a lot of helpful descriptions)

IMO they really need to move on and release the 64bit version, but until this happens, you need multilib
