This is an old bug I've dealt with since moving to XFCE a year ago. When I'm editing remote files via ssh or ftp through Thunar, Leafpad truncates the file upon save (I have read somewhere around it occurs at 4kb). Using Mousepad fixes the issue, but Mousepad is not in Salix repos and the source code was actually not easy to find. I grabbed a copy of 0.3xx from the Ubuntu repositories and it installed like a charm, only need to add 1 dependency through Gslapt. Let me know if anyone has found a fix for Leafpad, SalixOS is my new home and I'd prefer to use apps included natively. Thanks...

I also have encountered this bug recently and I switched to Geany.

Mousepad is not being developed anymore. It has several problems that will never be fixed.

If there is indeed a problem with leafpad, your best bet is to contact the leafpad developer(s) and file a bug report.
