I have installed Salix64 Xfce 14.0 on my Dell Vostro 3350, which results in a very hot(to the touch) laptop. The 3350 has a hybrid Intel / AMD graphics setup:

Any ideas what I can do? I have been searching the net, but have nothing that leads me to a solution. I should add that at this time I am dual booting with Win 7, and there are no problems on the Win side. Weird, because the drivers on both sides are Intel.

Could be that your Video chip is Getting temperamental.
Had a Dell XPS1200 which ran Hot and the video chip was on the Board. Failed 3 times and this course resulted in multiple Board replacements.

Some Smaller Footprint Notebooks with High Performance Chips packed in Close quarters just will have to run hot. The Dell XPS 1200 actually had a liquid cooling channel to help alleviate this problem.

As noted in this link an others a Hot Vostro 3350 is a common complaint which results in a constantly running Fan.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it is also slightly hot in Win 7, but I still believe that it is running hotter under Linux with the Intel open source drivers. Interestingly, I have also tried to run Ubuntu 12.10 on this computer, but the GUI kept crashing on me. Not sure whether this was due to the heat issue, but looking on the bright side, it proves the rock solid stability of Salix OS

I will continue to actively look for a solution, but thanks for your input.

Thanks for the reply. The question is whether it is the CPU or the GPU that needs frequency scaling...

My Vostro has an i7 Intel CPU.
