Low Volume in Salix

Hi,
I have been using Salix for the past couple of weeks and it is working great. One thing I am seeing in Salix is the low volume. Even with the mixer at the highest volume settings, the volume is not enough for me. I have used /etc/.asoundrc or something like that to triple or quadruple the volume. Is there anything I can do in Salix to amplify the volume?
Thanks,
Balaji.

Check all the chanels in alsamixer.
Look for things like Front, Speaker, PCM and not just Master.

I did max out whatever I could, but still the issue remains. Moreover, on a laptop, I don't know whether the Front, Rear matters.

Does it make a difference what kind of sound? What are you playing?
Arch has a nice page on alsa, I was just there because I had forgotten some commands I needed just now after a restore (I wanted to make the changes permanent, used amixer sset for that, I have to mute one setting, unmute two others), you might browse through it:

Maybe forget about that. I was just browsing the internet and this problem is all over the place. Sometimes it is just an omission, but not always.
This was very interesting, maybe worth a try if everything else checks out?

And from Alien Bob I see.
