I have tried all of the xf86-video-intel* drivers from salix repos with not success.

Any ideas what this is? Why it maybe happening?

Looks really weird, but I don't have any explanation about this. Do you have the same results with other distros?

My guess is that you're not restarting xorg between changing drivers.
