Then, you cannot use the installer on this GPT disk. It is not supported.

Is this regress or devolution?

With former Salix-live I could install and boot from a USB stick
I could use the installer to install on a hard drive partition and boot into it.

Now with new live versions this is gone. :-?

Does not make sense to me! :( :shock: :? :cry:

It's a regression - though it may be that support for your particular setup was only ever a lucky accident.

Does the 14.x non-live installer work ok for you? Did you ever install 13.37 from a Salix install disk?

This luck continues to work. How lucky I can be. ;)

I actually do not believe in such luck, more in proper programming. Sorry to say.

Yes to both of your other questions.

Previous Salix live versions created with a different method. Now we use salt. So previous version of installer does not work with salt.
Anyone is welcome to dig into installer code to make it work with GPT.

I see gksu is installed. Why? We don't even have it in the repos.

Salix-live-installer, crashed in the step of setting keyboard. This is because of ktsuss. Kdesu and gksu are working fine and installation always succeeded. So a trick is used. libgtop, libgksu, gksu packages compiled and added on packages-live to be used on the live environment but they are not installed during installation.
After installation ktsuss only exists so livedvd is fully compatible with installation cd.

Great News!

I was able to install on a USB stick and boot from it. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Not using grub which was proven will not work on my system instead
I am using LILO. Posting this from the booted USB stick.
I put this live xfce to stick from a live CD using LiveClone.

looks good, the only problems are;

1) the update notifier does not update anything. it notifies, asks permission, then closes.

2) live clone. it does a great job making a big squashed salt file, what it doesnt do is put it into an iso after its done. i have chose build iso in the gui a few times and always get the same result. i edited to original cd with isomaster, removed all the salt modules and replaced them with my big custom one. the resulting cd booted and installed perfect. sorry i should have dug a little deeper and looked at the script but i dont have a lot of time and im not that good at scripting. maybe one of your guys could look at it.

both of these have been duplicated a few times on real hardware.

cant wait for the final. good work slackers.

I love it ;-)

I made an upgrade with gslapt which included a new kernel 3.2.45. Then when rebooting from
the USB stick, mouse and keyboard did not work any longer. The systen was runing so as the
second hand of xclock kept on ticking.

Got out with reset machine and booted with CD. The same, no mouse and keybord. Both
USB stick and CD have the same persistence file.

Deleted persistence file and mouse/KB worked again. I only had lost my desktop settings.
Made new persistence file with new desktop settings and all is working fine now.
Kernel is

Code: Select all

$ uname -r
3.2.45-smp
Have not tested all apps, however, those tested all run pefectly.
