Repeated updates of same packages

I have salixos14-xfce installed. The update icon appears on the panel stating that packages are available for update. On answering yes, it installs (thru gslapt) following packages:
1. ndiswrapper
2. xdg-utils
However, after some time it again shows the same message and same packages are again installed. This has occurred many times now. Is this a bug? How can I correct this problem?

It could be a bad download, try deleting /var/slapt-get/salix/n/ndiswrapper* and ../x/xdg-utils* then doing the upgrade again.

I have the same problem with about 10 packages some even recommend to downgrade.
/var/slapt-get/salix/* are all empty.

which slapt-get wants to downgrade to version 4.8.4-i486-2. Others I have upraded
and still they pop back the next time around.
Actually these are always the same packages showing-up repeatedly. New updates like
recently to midori-0.5.5 does not come back. Samba I had not installed and apparently
slipped back.

Atip,
first of all, my post was not referring to you. I was referring to the original poster. Highjacking somebody else's thread is not a good thing. I'm not sure you problem is the same as his, in fact I'm quite sure it isn't. The output you have provided shows that it's all your fault. You have some packages installed that were never part of slackware 14.0 or salix 14.0. You could have never installed dbus-1.6.12 installed for example. You probably installed them from current, which of course you never mentioned. That is not supported and will never be. And a lot of the updates in your list seem legitimate, but I have no idea what you did to break your system, I'm not good at guessing.

How would I know, you did not adress a name. Strange idea of highjacking. I thought
threads in a forum are open to general replies.

Replies, yes. Diverting the subject to something different, no. This thread was created to help the original poster after all. Your own problem is definitely something you caused yourself. Nothing in the original post seems to indicate the same (yet at least). In my post, there was a suggestion for the original poster to try slapt-get --clean. You replied that it didn't help. Can you see how that might prevent the original poster to not try the same thing? Which in his case might actually solve his problem!

I have kept command 'slapt-get --clean' in rc.local so that does not help me. I have just tried the command 'slapt-get -s --upgrade' and following is the output:
Code: Select all
# slapt-get -s --upgrade
Reading Package Lists...Done
The following packages have been EXCLUDED:
kernel-firmware kernel-headers
The following packages will be upgraded:

ndiswrapper-1.57-i486-3.2.29.smp.1gv is to be upgraded to version 1.57-i486-3.2.45.smp.1gv
xdg-utils-1.1.0_rc1-noarch-1 is to be upgraded to version 1.1.0rc1-noarch-1dj
Done
I will see and report if this helps.
Also, why kernel-firmware and kernel-headers are being excluded? I do not remember specifying this at any time during installation. Should I change this or leave it alone?

So there seems to be two versions of xdg-utils in the repo:
Code: Select all
root[rich]# slapt-get -se xdg-utils
xdg-utils-1.1.0_rc1-noarch-1 [inst=no]: xdg-utils (command line tools that assist applications)
xdg-utils-1.1.0rc1-noarch-1dj [inst=yes]: xdg-utils (command line tools that assist applications)
Just install the xdg-utils-1.1.0rc1-noarch-1dj by doing this:
Code: Select all
root[rich]# slapt-get -i xdg-utils-1.1.0rc1-noarch-1dj
Also, why kernel-firmware and kernel-headers are being excluded? I do not remember specifying this at any time during installation.
Yes these are excluded by default
Code: Select all
Should I change this or leave it alone
Leave it alone
Also you appeare to have the ndiswrapper installed for the 3.2.29 kernel and slapt-get want to upgrade it to the vesion for the 3.2.45 kernel. Have you updated you system to the 3.2.45 kernel? Please post the out out of
