Muzzled Sound

With the new kernel now coming up in Salix-14.1 I get a muzzled sound.
This problem arose with all kernels > 3.8.*.

There is a solution to it shown in

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad ... chitecture

found at the end of the page, however, that is not fully satisfactory yet
it shows I must not be alone with this problem. Sound becomes easily destorted
if too much amplified.

Now my question is, does anyone know a better way to get normal sound
back with the new kernels?

There's a lot of stuff on that page. What exactly did you tweak and how?

"Low sound workaround"

Added that sample softvol as asound.conf into /etc

Undo that. The "muzzled" sound problem is a result of you increasing the volume with softvol like that. If you look at the notes right below the instructions they read:
Setting a high value for Pre-Amp can cause sound distortion, so adjust it according to the level that suits you.
The "muzzled" sound is that distortion. Either find a value that doesn't create distortion, or live with lower volume I guess.

No, the mzzled sound is not a problem of me increasing the volume with softvol. That gives
a distorted sound and I am well aware of that.

The muzzled or better low sound is a problem I encounter with all kernels > 3.8.* and not only in Salix.
