Hello,
I' m new to Salix OS. I' ve heard about it on a slackware forum, so I decided to try it just for curiosity. I' m studying for a linux certification and I was looking for a system to use for practise. Slackware 14.0 was alright, but I preferred something lighter and faster, with a minimal DE, in order to force me to learn the way to do everthing by using the shell. Well.... fast.... light.... minimal DE.... but obviously 100% slackware.... The answer to all of these requirements is..... Salix with ratpoison DE! I simply felt in love with it.....
Is there someone else who is using it?

I fell in love with Ratpoison too, and used it exclusively for a long time. Nowadays I mostly use xmonad though, whether installed on top of a Ratpoison Salix, or xfce. The mouseless workflow is quite similar.

Salix or Slackware.... it's the way to go

MLED is also nice, check it out http://www.microlinux.fr/mled.php

It's simple enough with Slackware to do a minimal installation, just omit installing KDE packages and use Xfce. Or go even further by omitting both KDE and Xfce, and you are left with fluxbox, blackbox, fvwm, Windowmaker, and twm. Or just work from tty with tmux. Ratpoison can be added from SlackBuilds.

The Salix Ratpoison release is quite nice, too, though.

Salix is fully backward compatible with Slackware, meaning Salix's own Ratpoison package could be installed on a Slackware system. The Ratpoison edition (available soon for 14.1) has extra features such as the ratmenu, and a keyboard -focused selection of applications.
