Hi all,

I am looking for an app to play some MIDI files. I have a need to regularly listen to some short MIDI sequences, probably sampled/recorded on a Win-Box.
The apps I have here (exaile and grip) do not support *MID or I was not clever enough to find the right plugin or so.

So, what would be your recommendation?

I think audacious includes a timidity plugin... not really sure, I don't have it in the PC I'm on right now.

I would like to give it a go with Timidity and audacious.
I find a package for Timidity at slacky.eu .
Just download and install? Its a *txz file...just doubleclick or something special?

Do we? If not, in command line as root: You should ensure that all necessary dependencies are installed as well. You should find the list of dependencies where you found your package. Some are probably already installed, some should be available through slapt-get and finally for some others you may have to hunt the web manually one by one.

Indeed, there is no Install option on right click.

It seems I have to use the command line...

I have checked all dependencies and installed the missing ones with gslapt.
However, there is a gus-patchpackage (or so...) which I need to install as well.
I am however not sure whether to install before or after timidity...and how...

But I will give it a try this evening...

I just remembered that you can use fluidsynth from the command line to play midi files. This might be the best option, combined with a quality soundfont.

There is no problem to play the file with Timidity directly.

However, it did not run on audacious.

At least, it seem audacious is playing the MIDI file, but nothing to hear...too silent...or...
audacious is not able to extract the details/tags from the MIDI. So maybe the MIDI is not 100% correct.
