I needed to save a document in Microsoft Word 2007 .docx format. While the OpenOffice 3.1.1 (build 9420) supports reading .docx files it has no provision for saving in that format. On my netbook I have Ubuntu installed. It includes the same version and build of OpenOffice and has full .docx support. What gives?
I'm running Salix 13.0.2 (64-bit) on my desktop with all the latest patches.

Re: .docx document support missing in OpenOffice (Salix 13.0.2)
I confirm to the Salix part, I can not find any save option for docx here too (Salix64 13.0.2). To other distributions, I can not say anything.
Take a look here: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... =7&t=10235
Maybe there are some "proprietary" or "non-free" patches done in this other distribution
In my opinion, this is no point for comparision of distributions.
EDIT: By the way, I thought that M$ got some strict rules to not sell Word with XML support any more because of a licence violation and that this would also probably affect OpenOffice.org. Does somebody know details of the current state?

You are free to keep them all errors for your own. Linux is the best game I ever played.

I was under the impression that ubuntu doesn't use the stock OOo, but uses the go-ooo variant instead.
Re: .docx document support missing in OpenOffice (Salix 13.0.2)
That would explain it. Thanks. I guess I'll have to add go-ooo and get rid of the stock package. Pity.
Oh, and I do believe comparing how things work in other distros is useful.

And we won't do such things because IMHO patching everything sucksdamNageHack wrote:Maybe there are some "proprietary" or "non-free" patches done in this other distribution![]()

Could be useful to have go-ooo in the repo...

What really matters is where you are going, not where you come from.
Re: .docx document support missing in OpenOffice (Salix 13.0.2)
Yes, why not. Someone wants to package it?
