Samba and security problems

Hi,
after setting up samba, along Alien Bob' instructions (almost), I am experiencing access problem on files.
A file generated on the WIn7 notebook is stored on its local drive.
After connecting the Win7 to my Salix I can see the file from both ends and can move it around.
However, when trying to open the file with Salix (libreoffice) it does not.
So I opened a thunar session as root and tried to change security/access rights, but it is not persistent
or is not applied as it should.
Where am I doing something wrong?
Maybe its good point to start with the samba setup first. Anyone out there who could "throw an eye on it" ?
