Here it is Salix Openbox RC1 which fixes all bugs reported. Thanks to everyone tested the beta2.
I have tested the 32bit RC1 iso in virtualbox and everything is working fine.
Please test the RC1 and if there are no bugs it will be the final iso.

You can download all Salix Openbox 14.1RC1 iso images from the following links, using the Sourceforge servers.

None of those are present in a standard installation of Salix, in any edition. What makes you think they should be included in openbox?

Yep, that's a bug.

I also managed to reproduce the disappearing salix-irc icon. Just open spacefm in the Desktop directory. The salix-irc icon is invisible in there. Then just drag the window over the desktop icon and that disappears too...

~/.xinitrc and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.openbox are still different.

Also, in the openbox autostart.sh file, there are many lines that are commented out. Why aren't they just removed?

And since xdg-user-dirs is included in the iso, why not run it in autostart.sh so standard directories will be created?

The text editor button in the panel launches geany. It should launch leafpad.

Hi!
Very well - there is a non-pae Kernel :D
(Thank you - so i can install Salix on my old Notebook)
But the memory consumption of OpenBox is only a little less then XFCE...
It is 250MB to 290MB (XFCE) at full installation!
The spacefm filemanager has a mixed localisation (englisch and german).
So far i could't found any Problems...

I'm not a friend of OpenBox and so i installed the
"basis-option" and made a "slapt-get --install-set xfce"
Then i removed anything i don't want and installed what i like...

But this was not an good Idea:
You have to write "hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda" in rc.local!
I can't see a USB-Stick (and Trahs too) on the XFCE-Desktop!
The system freeze(!) if i put in a CD or DVD!

But if i install the "full-option" of OpenBox and then the XFCE-Set
it all works perfect!
I also removed the OpenBox-Programs without any consequences!

I think it is a great work, when you can change the Desktops without any disabilities!
(but it works only with full-option)

thanks

I just realized there is no notification daemon installed. So notify-send doesn't really work. You can add the mate-notification-daemon package in the BASIC list.

Also, I'm still not comfortable with the battery icon showing up even if it's running on a system with no battery. We'll have to figure this out so it shows only when a battery is present. Maybe remove the fbpanel battery applet and add some battery applet that runs in the tray.

Also, replace the line that starts fbxkb in autostart.sh with this one:

Code: Select all

(setxkbmap -query | grep "^layout:" | sed "s/^layout: *//" | grep -q "," && [ -x /usr/bin/fbxkb ] && fbxkb) &
that way fbxkb only runs when multiple keymaps are available, it doesn't make sense to have it running when only one keymap is available.

Unable to play an audio CD with whaaw.
Can't mount /mnt/cdrom if enabled in fstab.

Code: Select all

sudo mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: /dev/sr0: can't read superblock
No problem playing a DVD
