Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
and so will be the whole gtk2
Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
Yes, it will be. As everything will, at some point.mt12345 wrote:and so will be the whole gtk2
Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
I mean soon.
let me explain.
I ve been running debian/ubuntu for couple of years, lxde or just openbox+panel, now when gtk2 is 'dying' some distros are moving to gtk3, some to qt.
Im pro QT, besides Im tired of debian, Im running Razor QT Porteus at the moment but I want fully installed slackware-based distro with razorqt desktop. I was going to build it using ratpoison edition but I found this.
Salix Openbox is very good but in my opinion bit too late...

Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
You are wrong. There is so much software out there that is still using gtk2 and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future, that gtk2 is not going anywhere. Even GIMP (remember what GTK stands for? ) will not be ported to gtk3 and will continue to use gtk2. In the mean time, gtk2 is still getting code and security updates.mt12345 wrote:I mean soon
Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
OK, I see.
I was using Semplice linux recently but I dont like mix of gtk2 and gtk3 applications.
Looks awful.
(The next release is supposed to be gtk3 only).
Im moving toward Qt but want to stay kde-free.
Yes there are some gtk apps I'm gonna miss and I dont mean Gimp as I can use Pencil or Cinepaint but Parcelite (Qlipper dont have primary selection copy), Gparted (Qtparted don't have all the features ) or excellent File-roller
Back to salix:
I removed all gtk stuff, installed xterm.
I can login and startx to openbox, but in virtual console I get this showing up every 10s:
please tell me what to tweak the system to get rid of this and I swear I won't disturb you again
(I dont want to install any login manager)

hey, gdm. lxdm, slim, kdm or xdm are not executable or don't exist
can't use runlevel 4 without one of those installed
(I dont want to install any login manager)
Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
I'm sorry, but this is the Salix Openbox 14.1RC1 testing thread. If you have anything to contribute to that, go ahead. Otherwise, you're welcome to open new threads for the problems you're having (or causing).
Re: Salix Openbox 14.1RC1
If I open new thread I will most likely be sent back here.
Thanks anyway, I will download ratpoison edition.
