Salix 14.1 installation on non-PAE hardware fails

I am getting the following message:

This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU:
pae
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

Salix Openbox which is now in 14RC1, includes the i486 kernel which doesn't require PAE.
