Hey guys! I'm new to Salix (but not Slackware!) and the forums. I'm 14. I play a few Steam games, I am a moderator on the Cup of Linux forums, yeah, thats me.

I am liking Salix 14.1 MATE. Got all I want running (I did a minimal install). Got Steam working from Alien Bob's package. I just have 1 problem. Tearing. It is really annoying me. My spec:

Intel DQ965GF
3GB DDR2 (in dual channel)
Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz (Dual Core)
250GB Western Digital Caviar WD2500 7200RPM (IDE/PATA)
250GB Seagate Momentus 5400RPM (SATA)
80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM (SATA)
MSi GeForce GT N210 1GB DDR3 (Nvidia 304 driver)

I compiled and installed compton, but it did not help like in XFCE or Openbox.

Is there a way to get rid of tearing?

Are you sure this is the correct driver? From what I can find a MSi GeForce GT N210 card uses the nVidia GeForce 210 graphic engine which uses this driver:

Wow I never knew this card was still supported. I had read that it had been put in 304 legacy. I'll update it when I can (not at the moment). Thanks!

UPDATE: I have installed the 340 driver (performance increase, yes) but the tearing is still there I'm gonna fiddle with some settings and see if I can get it to stop

UPDATE2: I played around with compton and found that this got rid of tearing! I added: to startup
