How can I create a Live Image for Openbox 14.1?

Hi All,
I'm pretty new to Linux.
I downloaded the MATE and Openbox 14.1 (32-bit) versions but I didn't observe at the time that the current ISO files are not Live enabled.
I exited the installation to the Console prompt. Is it possible to start the Desktop Environment from the console so as to be able to test these versions?
No, doesn't look like it. I tried startx but received "command not found".
Are there any ACCURATE instructions somewhere that I could follow to create a Live USB from the ISO files I downloaded?
Thanks, Michael.
