Boot and password problems.

I installed SalixLive64 Xfce 14.1 from an USB flash drive. I also installed ELILO boot loader. After restarting my computer the system could not find the boot loader and only BIOS appeared. I tried to reinstall Salix OS but the problem remained the same. Then I almost gave up, inserted the Windows CD to repair Win7. (I have 2 OS installed simultaneously but I guess it should not cause any problems.) After repair and reboot ELILO surprisingly worked and I started my session with Salix OS. Now I got a new problem. I succesfully changed my keyboard language. (Root password was necessary.) But then the terminal (and any other applications that need password) did not recognise me as root. (su: Authentication failure) My root password contains only numbers. And I have already found out that Salix OS also distinguishes numbers typed with numeric keypad. I cannot change keyboard language again. I cannot dd another ISO image on my USB device. I am stuck. Please, help. (It would be also beneficial if these bug-like inaccuracies were fixed.) Thank you.

I think su (and gksu) are not enabled in Salix. Try

Code: Select all

sudo su -
in a terminal instead.

Ps. That's about philosophies. In aptosid e.g. they went crazy even only mentioning sudo . . . ;)

Well, I tried. "sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts" :D Thank you, anyway. I think I will need to reinstall the whole operating system.

Your problem is that you forgot your own password. Or that you're not typing it properly.

Reading the startup guide will benefit you greatly. Link on main page.
