Parole doesn't install plugin

Parole was the installed (default) mediaplayer in xfce 14.1, but when trying to play mpg4 files, I get this message -
Parole needs MPEG-4 Video decoder to play this file.
It can be installed automatically.
But after selecting "install" nothing happens.

It seems this is a bug related to xfce.

So anyway, I installed mplayer which works fine. Just thought I'd post this because you might want to use an alternative mediaplayer for the next xfce version of Salix. ;)

No, it's not related to xfce. The Parole developers decided it was a good idea to make this feature specific to debian based distros. That's why it doesn't work. It's not supposed to do anything if it's not debian running. In Salix you install multimedia codecs using the respective application in the Multimedia menu.

Right, thanks. I did look at the multimedia codecs but wasn't sure which one to install, and I didn't want to install all of them.

Well, since you ask, no particular reason apart from not wanting to have stuff I don't need on the system. Anyway, I've installed them all and the problem with Parole is fixed. Thanks again.
