Salix is great!

Salix is great! So far, it is doing what I want. It is simple and of course it is Slackware-based. Google Chrome is working perfect with Flash and I just have what I need. I am very suprised the way Gslapt handles the updates.
I think all it needs is a firewall like Gufw or Firestarter.
Perfect...!

I have noticed that Salix in my laptop is kind of a memory hugger. After start-up, it consumes from 150-185 Mb of RAM and with Google Chrome browser at least 250-285 Mb. Is this normal?
I have used, for instance, Arch and Sidux and right after booting up about 75-85 Mb of RAM and about 150 with Chrome.
Am I doing something wrong???

Maybe you are using 64 bit Salix but 32 bit Sidux & Arch... (or you have a really minimalistic environment in S & A

)

I wouldn't call 150-250 much anyway. I guess you just have a more minimal installation with arch. With openbox on top of Salix Core, I'm using like 100MB with XPad, Terminator, Geany, Wicd, xfce4-power-manager, stjerm and probably even some more stuff running.

Don't measure RAM usage with browser because it differs greatly depending on opened tabs.

I am using xfce ...sidux uses xfce as well...I guess openbox is a lot lighter...
But I am keeping Salix anyway....

Just wanted to show that even a light system (114MB with X without a browser) can take 250MB with chromium.
