Missing XFCE panel options?

Post by jeffneedle »

Hi. Another question, if I may. I use the XFCE panel dictionary and the datetime panel item. Neither seems to be in the repos. Is there some way to get these to work in Salix? Thanks.

use either sudo slapt-src -i xfce4-dict xfce4-datetime-plugin or sudo spi -i (with same packages)

Getting "No such package or Slackbuild" for both. Is this a problem with repositories! Thanks.

Hi.

These terms are unknown to me. What is a "XFCE panel dictionary" and a "(XCFE) datetime panel item"?
Maybe you want to describe the characteristics of these applications and how they look in use.

Otherwise the major XFCE applications are already installed. These you can get ready to use by selecting the panel context menu and inside there the menu item "panel" and then "add new items".

@jeffneedle
run

Code: Select all

sudo spi -u
first.

And please at least read the package management section of the startup guide (linked from the main page).

These are panel applets. One adds a dictionary to the XFCE panel. The other extends the date display to a much more pleasant date and time display. Salix is the first distro that doesn't have them in the repos.

Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated. After giving the matter much thought, I've decided to move on to another distro, one that requires less work to get up and going. I do appreciate the efforts.

"Updating the package cache" -> "Too much work"

So long and thanks for all the fish.

There is actually a XFCE dictionary with name xfce4-dict. The datetime plugin is xfce4-datetime-plugin. Both can be installed via Sourcery.
