How to upgrade my installed Salix 14.1 to 14.2 without downloading the new ISO and reinstalling - and removing the current?
The way like in Ubuntu I can do

Code: Select all

apt-get dist-upgrade
Thanks

https://docs.salixos.org/wiki/How_to_up ... .1_to_14.2

Works perfectl;y. Did in on 2 hard drives.

Just be careful with "slapt-get --remove-obsolete --remove". I skipped it.

Good luck

It is not a good idea to skip this. If you do you have a lot of packages leftover from the previous version which, if you're lucky, will simply not work. They may interfere with your installation in ways you can't predict. Just make a note of everything that is removed and if you see that there is something you want to keep, reinstall it after you have removed everything.

I am sure you are correct. Luckily in my case all worked out fine. My good old programs retained and opening.

Whereas the continued upgrading of RC did not work our well. It had in the end a lot of hick-ups and I could not open my applix files.

Tried to install new 14.2 from USB stick put on with unetbootin. It would not boot. Installed now from DVD. Have to see yet if applix can be installed.
