I'm using palemoon web browser on all my computers as nice replacement of firefox. the salix version is one year old and moreover it uses old engine (it is the last version with gecko). probable because of that I have some non-compability problems with my adds-on during synchronization. my I suggest to upgrade this apps?
cheers,
Palemoon

Re: Palemoon
The palemoon package is actually built from SBo and not from a Salix packager. Read this blog post on how it works and what it means.
Since I have no intention of supporting palemoon myself, I have now removed the package that was automatically built. Newer versions of palemoon have a lot of problems (like segfaulting all the time) as reported elsewhere.

Re: Palemoon
I built that (older) version to use as a backend for Conkeror, and it worked well - however, I didn't try it with any addons or extensions.
Re: Palemoon
thanks for your work. one day I switched all my browsers on all systems to palemoon. works great. it's little slimmer version of firefox.mimosa wrote:I built that (older) version to use as a backend for Conkeror, and it worked well - however, I didn't try it with any addons or extensions.
this information is slightly exaggerated. how "a lot" and "problems" are defined? well, nobody's perfect (Some Like It Hot ) and prefare palemoon with these problems than midori without .gapan wrote:Newer versions of palemoon have a lot of problems (like segfaulting all the time) as reported elsewhere.

Re: Palemoon
So you like a browser that segfaults when starting? I can't figure out how that would be useful at all.maroman wrote:this information is slightly exaggerated. how "a lot" and "problems" are defined? well, nobody's perfect (Some Like It Hot ) and prefare palemoon with these problems than midori without .

Re: Palemoon
You can always just built it yourself for your own use - or even upload it and make a forum post to upload the links, if you think other users would find it helpful, and if your package is reasonably stable.
I always recommend it to Windows users, though that was before the problems gapan mentions. I agree it is quite nice.

Re: Palemoon
Curious about this: I use PaleMoon (and i like it!) on Manjaro OpenRC (fluxbox) and in Devuan. In both it works fine ...
PS1. I saw the thread in the palemoon forum though ...
PS2. Is there a build of Srware Iron (Chrome based browser) for Slackware/Salix?

Re: Palemoon
I have been using Pale Moon for a long time.
(Recently lightweight distribution has adopted Pale Moon as the main browser)
I have not encountered a segment fault at Pale Moon so far.
You can use Pale Moon official Linux Installer to install Pale Moon on Salix:
http://linux.palemoon.org/download/installer/
Sbo takes a lot of time to build. This installer is a few minutes.

Re: Palemoon
If you encounter Pale Moon crash mainly timing right-click,
It occurred through the use oxygen-gtk theme. (It occurred in other distributions as well) For example:

Re: Palemoon
After that I encountered segfault at Slackel Openbox. (It works with KDE)
However, after Salix updates the package, Pale Moon works fine.
Perhaps it's a library difference...
