I bought a new printer Brother DCP-J100 and I am sofar unable to make it print after trying for more than one wholw day. I have installed all the drivers and filters and it shows.

Code: Select all

$ lpq
Generic-CUPS-PDF-Printer is ready
In the error.log I detect:
D [22/Oct/2016:15:26:02 +0800] [Client 11] No authentication data provided.
D [22/Oct/2016:15:26:02 +0800] [Client 11] Processing GET /favicon.ico
D [22/Oct/2016:15:26:02 +0800] [Client 11] cupsdSendHeader: code=404, type="text/html", auth_type=0
D [22/Oct/2016:15:26:02 +0800] [Client 11] Closing because Keep-Alive is disabled.
D [22/Oct/2016:15:26:02 +0800] [Client 11] Closing connection.
D [22/Oct/2016:15:26:02 +0800] cupsdSetBusyState: newbusy="Not busy", busy="Active clients"
and
Get-Subscriptions client-error-not-found: No subscriptions found.
In the Jobs of http://localhost:631/jobs/ it says:
State
stopped
"Filter failed"

On first try it said not found "brother_lpdwrapper_dcpj100"
This file is not provided with the drivers.
I searched for it and had a hard time finding it and then downloading it.
After putting it into /usr/lib/cups/filter I get now this: "Filter failed"

I feel like selling the damn printer again. Never had such a problem with any printer.

Help, hints, guidance appreciated.

Did you try with CUPS? What exactly did you do? What happened?

My computer is down. Most likely need a new MB.

Anyhow, yes I used cups and agin spending another 4 hours searching and trying I found a
file how to install brother_lpdwrapper_dcpj100 and it does not seem to work. Will report again
when I am back in my own machine.

Got the printer finally working. :D :D :D
as well as my machine. :)

After doing some more search I found:
dcpj100_cupswrapper_GPL_source_3.0.0-1.tar.gz

Installing it and running the various files it contained this printer finally came to life.
