Xorg seeehr langsam

Hallo,

ich habe gerade das neue Salix 14.2.1 auf meines Nachbarn älteren Siemens-Nixdorf installiert und alles ist wunderbar... nur der Xorg verbraucht bis zu 90% Cpu und die Fenster bewegen sich nur gaaaanz langsam.
Sonst scheint alles flott zu laufen...

Habe schon über Einstellungen => Monitor andere Auflösungen probiert, aber daran liegt es nicht.
Vorher lief darauf Puppy, das war ebenfalls mit Xfce4 ganz flott.
Kann ich nicht Xorg irgendwie neu konfigurieren oder zu Xvesa wechseln?

Ps: Kann ich, angenommen mit der Life-CD läuft alles normal (oder auch mit einer anderen Life-CD) die Einstellungen einfach rüberkopieren? Das hat auf anderen Systemen schon mal geklappt, aber ich weiß nicht, ob die gute alte Xorg-config überhaupt noch Bedeutung hat?

Hallo,

für langsame Abläufe kommen etliche Gründe in Betracht. Ohne nähere Angaben zur Hardware lässt sich wenig sagen. Mindestens Daten der CPU und des Grafik-Chipsets sind nötig. Auch muss die Bezeichnung des Siemens-Nixdorf-Rechners nicht verschwiegen werden.

Mit:

bekommt man schon etwas zusammen, das Sie hier zeigen können. inxi muss wahrscheinlich zuvor noch installiert werden.

Eventuell wird ein falscher Grafiktreiber geladen. Erschöpfende Auskunft könnte die Analyse oder die vollständige Wiedergabe des Inhalts von /var/log/Xorg.0.log geben. Kann auch sein, dass die Hardware-Beschleunigung nicht aktiviert ist, wenn überhaupt vorhanden.

Die Formulierung "bis zu 90 % CPU" sagt auch, dass die Belastung nicht dauerhaft so hoch ist. Wenn derartig hohe Belastungen nur beim Umgang mit Fenstern auftreten, dann kann unter: "Fensterverwaltung > Erweitert > Inhalt von Fenstern verstecken" das System entlasten werden.

Auskunft über die Ursache der CPU-Belastung kann durch den Aufruf von htop erhalten werden.

Zum Vergleich: auf meinem alten Single-Core-Rechner, mit je einem Thunar-, Geany- und Xfce4-terminal-Fenster in relativer Ruhe, wechselt die CPU-Belastung zwischen 1,4 und 2 % (verursacht durch die Ausgabe in das Terminal-Fenster). Bewege ich eines der Fenster heftig herum, dann steigt die durchschnittliche Belastung bis auf 53 %.

Nur nebenbei: ein neues Salix 14.2.1 gibt es nicht; es handelt sich um SalixLive.

Vieles hat sich in den letzten Jahren verändert. Wenn es sich bei Einstellungen um die Grafik handelt, dann kann das nur dann gehen, wenn es sich um den gleiche Grafik-Chipset handelt; die benötigten Treiber, Libs und Fonts vorhanden sind und die Konfiguration auf die im Zielsystem vorgesehenen Plätzen im Dateisystem verweist. Die X-Server-Versionen müssen auch übereinstimmen.
Kann ich nicht Xorg irgendwie neu konfigurieren oder zu Xvesa wechseln?
Können Sie! Vorzugsweise im Verzeichnis /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d. Man kann auch zum Vesa-Treiber wechseln, aber schneller als ein zur Hardware passender Treiber wird das nicht sein. Dazu xorg.conf-vesa in /etc/X11 nach xorg.conf umbenennen und eventuell noch anpassen, dann booten.

Der entscheidende Hinweis war derjenige auf den Fensterinhalt.
Ich habe 'Composite' deaktiviert (Schatten um den Fensterrahmen usw) und sofort war der 'Ruckeleffekt' beim Verschieben der Fenster verschwunden. Ein Abschalten der Sichtbarkeit des Fensterinhaltes beim Verschieben und bei Größenänderung hat die Sache nochmals beschleunigt.

Allerdings könnte ich mir vorstellen, daß es auch am Treiber liegt, weil ich meine, der Rechner sollte stark genug sein, um 'Composite' zu ermöglichen.

Hatte ich gar nicht erwähnt. Bei meinem alten Rechner ist

gesetzt, aber keiner der Unterpunkte ist angehakt. Die Abschaltung der "Verschönerungen" hat sicher auch erheblichen Einfluss. Vielleicht bleiben so noch andere Kompositfunktionen übrig, die vom Benutzer nicht beeinflussbar sind.

Ich hatte bereits erklärt, wie man Aukunft über Hardware und Treiber erhalten kann. Alternativ mit:

inxi -x -v 1
lassen sich Auskünfte, darunter auch die geladenen Grafiktreiber, erhalten. Die Ausgabe lässt sich mittels "kopieren und einfügen" übernehmen und hier zeigen. Aus /var/log/Xorg.0.log lässt sich ermitteln, ob der X-Server damit Schwierigkeiten hat. Dabei sollte dieses Datei direkt nach dem Anmelden am System übernommen werden.

Leider haben meine Nachbarn gerade eine neue Fritzbox bekommen, und das Internet scheint jetzt sehr langsam zu sein (wir wohnen auf dem Land). Die Verbindungsinfo vom Netzwerkapplet zeigt "Geschwindigkeit unbekannt".

Auf dem Rechner bekomme ich nicht mal die Spiegelserver aktualisiert, allein "Abbrechen" dauert 5 min.
Darum kann auch "inxi" nicht installiert werden, weil ich die Paketliste nicht aktualisieren kann:
Gslapt zeigt nur die aktuell installierten Pakete an.

Weder htop noch "Prozessverwaltung" zeigen auffälliges. Cpu und Memory bewegen sich überwiegend im unteren Drittel.

Die Xorg.0.log siehe unten!

Grundsätzlich fällt mir auf, daß sich die Fenster jetzt zwar zügig bewegen lassen, aber beispielsweise die farblich unterlegten hover-Menüeinträge den Mausbewegungen etwas hinterherschleppen. Scrollen im Browser ist gnadenlos langsam (was an der Netzverbindung liegen mag?).
