TOTEM locks up computer

What programs in Salix are capable of playing "asx" type audio files? I assume this is 'streaming audio' which I don't understand very well. I played this song on a website, the totem-browser plugin is what pops up and plays in Firefox. I saved the URL and wanted to play it again , so I open this totem player program , enter the URL, the song plays 1 time, and locked up my computer the following 3 times, required power-button reboot. XMMS won't load the url, so it won't play it, neither does Juk or Exaile or anything else I have in Salix.

asx is a really crappy MS format. Perhaps you'll have better luck with mplayer or vlc.

Ok, I'll try mplayer . Doing some more research it seems that asx is not really a file as much as a file-pointer, to redirect to a different location where the actual file resides. Confusing.
