When installing Salix on my laptop I properly set up the partition table to have everything the installer needs. It properly formated swap and root but not the EFI System Partition. I had to manually format the EFI System Partition as VFAT.

Yes that they way the Slackware installer works. Hopefully this will be changed when Slackware 15 is released.
