I have not used a Slackware-based Linux distribution before. I used Debian for over 10 years, but I wanted a change and thought I'd try Salix. The installation was straightforward, there was nothing surprising. The big confusion was how fast this is. The applications open immediately, the Theme is great and works in all programs.
Now there are a couple of questions, i.e. what kind of update cycle is Salix? So I mean programs, etc.. I got used to Debian that there was at least one update every week. Does Salix update automatically or does it have to be done manually?
I hope you can find out from this post..:)

Hi novrexi,

Welcome to Salix.

Salix works in a stable cycle, (such as Slackware 15.0) normally "only" security patches are applied, but there are also program versions updates and also some add programs.

You can follow the changelog, for instance: http://slackware.uk/salix/x86_64/15.0/ChangeLog.txt 15.0 (x86_64) version

I recommend only using software for the 15.0 version (such as or Debian versions)

The easiest way is simply to use Gslapt

You can also use flatpak tool or slapt-src command to use slackbuilds https://www.slackbuilds.org/

Thank you for your answer. I'll have to follow those links you gave me.
In Debian, I always only used their release packages, not third-party programs.

Hi novrexi,

and Tervetuloa Salikseen!

Rather out of date, but still useful:

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions on the forum, it's a small and friendly community.

Welcome to Salix. Yes, its amazing how fast a system can be when there are no "unnecessary" things running in the background or unnecessary patches to programs. 8-)
