Hi everyone!
A few days ago the Xfce team released Xfce 4.20! So here is a little something for you to play with this Christmas! We now have dedicated repositories for this new Xfce release that you can add to your Salix 15.0 installation.
Since Xfce 4.20 needs newer versions of libraries than those present in a stock Salix 15.0 (and of course Slackware 15.0) system, these libraries, which include GTK+3 and friends, will also be upgraded. In total, 134 packages for both 64-bit and 32-bit systems are included in this update. You can view the respective changelogs inside the new Xfce 4.20 repositories:
64-bit repository:
https://download.salixos.org/x86_64/xfc ... ngeLog.txt
32-bit repository:
https://download.salixos.org/i486/xfce4 ... ngeLog.txt
So, all you have to do is add a line like the following in your /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc for 64-bit systems:
Code: Select all
SOURCE=https://download.salixos.org/x86_64/xfce4.20-15.0/:PREFERRED
or for 32-bit systems:
Code: Select all
SOURCE=https://download.salixos.org/i486/xfce4.20-15.0/:PREFERRED
and then just upgrade your system:
Code: Select all
sudo slapt-get --update
sudo slapt-get --upgrade
You'll probably want to log out of Xfce and back in after that. You will then be greeted with the shiny new Xfce 4.20 environment!
Merry Christmas everyone!

And here is a list of known issues:
* You might have your selected wallpaper shown in your first virtual desktop, with any additional virtual desktops showing the default Xfce wallpaper. This has only happened in one of the four systems I've installed Xfce 4.20 in, so not sure what triggers it. All you have to do is go into your desktop settings and make sure the "Apply to all workspaces" option is checked for the wallpaper. If it is already checked, uncheck it and check it again.
Other than that, there should be no further issues, upgrades have been very smooth overall.

I had this problem.
If it is already checked, uncheck it and check it again.
This resolved my issue.
Thanks again, Merry Christmas all.

No issues here

Good evening,
Can we delete the Xfce 4.18 repository?
Thank you very much for this nice Christmas gift. Everything works fine for me.

You mean from your configuration in /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc? Yes.

A bit late for me, but better late than never...
In 2 out of 4 installations I had to to uncheck/recheck "Apply to all workspaces". In one of those installations, my account needed this uncheck/recheck, but my wife's did not (both on the same machine, same custom wallpaper folder)... The only difference was that wife's account has different wallpapers for each workspace, so it might be that. Go figure, but doesn't matter. Other than that, no issues at all. It upgrades GTK3 as well (which was expected), and my GTK3-based applications work as before.
Upgrading XFCE can solve not so obvious problems. It did for me in the past, when upgrading XFCE from the old 4.16 to 4.18 (with Salix 15) solved a problem I had when resizing windows using a specific GUI/Graphics library. In that case, resizing worked on, e.g., Openbox but was buggy on XFCE.
Thank you and happy new year!
