Hi everyone! I decided to install salix 14.1 on my old computer (pentium 4). I chose this version of the distribution so that everything would work very quickly and use less RAM. I updated the mirror links and when I run slapt-get -u I get the error "peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates". I tried to solve the problem by installing and applying certificates specifically for slackware 14.1, but this did not help. How solve this problem?

You might have some luck if you get the ca-certificates package from 15.0. I haven't tried it, don't know if it works.

Other than that, you chose to use 14.1 which has been unsupported for a long time. It was first released 11 years ago. There is no reason why you shouldn't use Salix 15.0.

Hello, I tried installing this version. There were problems with the video card drivers (glxgears displayed defective gears), the system took a long time to load and worked slowly, one cursor shift and the processor load was 100%. I'm still looking for the best linux distribution for my old computer.

Salix 15.0 should be fine.

Depends on the kind of Pentium 4. They range from 1,3 to 3,8 GHz on a single core.

@gaiosman: Did you try 14.2 (which is also out of support) instead of 14.1? 14.2 needs slightly more power than 14.1, but is more compatible (more packages available). Also, could you try to select a different mirror? Some of the package mirrors in the old Salix versions have been shut off.

It doesn't matter. I'm running Salix 15.0 on an eeePC from 2008 with an Atom N270 1.6 GHz CPU and 512MB RAM. It's fine. Just don't expect to run firefox or any modern browser. Use netsurf and you should be OK.
