[Solved] New to Salix....are there extra repositories to add
[Solved] New to Salix....are there extra repositories to add
I installed salix and was having fun this morning installing software until I ran onto many, many of my favorite linux programs that were not available. Just to mention a few > kate, mousepad, krusader. I am thinking there must be some extra respositories to add. I have not been able to find them on my own. Could someone please point me in the right direction to documentation or anything else that could lead me to info on adding extra repositories. I am a seven year user of linux, so I need just a little guidance on this matter.........thanks

You can use any slackware repository with salix. Most things should work, but make certain you read this first: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/C ... positories?
As for your specific requests, kate is in the kdesdk package and mousepad is in the xfce package. I have no idea what krusader is, but you can probably find it in slackbuilds.org, directly from the web page, or by using slapt-src, or even sbopkg if you like.

Re: New to Salix....are there extra repositories to add ?
thanks gapan....
I pretty got installed what I needed except for Krusader, which is a powerful dual window file manager, for now I have replaced it with Thunar. I definitely need to learn Slackware better. I did use NimbleX on a usb stick one time, that was Slackware but it seemed different than Salix. I like what I see with Salix, it looks like it was created in 2009 so is really in its early development.......good job Dev's.
best regards,
jerry

The auto-formatting is directing to Can I use third party repositories instead of Can I use third party repositories?gapan wrote:You can use any slackware repository with salix. Most things should work, but make certain you read this first: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/C ... positories?
