multimedia keys not working in hp dv9000

the additional multimedia keys (like volume up/down, play, fast forward etc) in hp pavilion dv9000 does not work with salixos. It works fine with Ubuntu 10.04. Is there any workout to make the additional keys to work? Thanks!

Thank you Gapan for the wonderful resource that led me to find my own solution for i3. That is what I was seeking. I specified in the my i3 config file and it works except a few keys (which xev and xmodmap does not detect natively) like DVD, forward, backward, pause/play, and go-to-end and go-to-start buttons. I shall experiment.
