mimosa wrote:I'm having trouble playing some DVDs, which looks like codecs trouble (no sound, eventually Parole gives up and says it can't read DVD). 13.1.2 plays them fine. I tried resinstalling salix-codecs-installer and running it again (updated first); it completed successfully, but didn't make any difference. I tried other apps too, so it's not just Parole.

I don't know if this is related to the previous problem, but it seems possible.
You're probably right. DVDs have either AC3 or, some times, mp2 encoded sound and I just noticed that we're missing mp2 support in gstreamer. Maybe we'll have to replace the slackware gst-plugins-good package with our own.

No, we're not missing mp2 support after all. It's just that parole can't play mp2 files, but it can play mp2 files wrapped in another container. It should be able to play DVDs with mp2 sound. So, don't know what the problem is.

Those DVDs play with VLC (though I can't work out how to get it to use the full width of the screen). But in 13.1.2, they played in Parole.
