This is the most serious problem I've had so far. The same hardware works flawlessly under the same meteorological conditions with my trusty SalixLXDE 13.1.2 memory stick, as this message bears witness.
ifconfig -a reports the presence of eth0and wlan0, but wicd can't see either my network or my neighbour's unsecured one (I use wpa2). It's a Ralink chipset, never had any trouble to speak of before, with Salix.
It's obviously going to be tricky for me to test anything without direct internet access, but if you give me a batch of things I can use the memory stick to save them in 13.2's /home on the HD. Salix LXDE seems to think it has permission to write to any partition.
EDIT
I solved this by telling wicd that the wireless interface is wlan0 in "Preferences". But isn't the whole point of wicd to detect this automatically? It's got eth0 under "Wired", alright, and indeed, this worked without a hitch.
13.2 beta wireless problem - network not detected
Re: 13.2 beta wireless problem - network not detected
I actually had the same problem with 13.1 when I swapped the computers round. It seems that if wicd configures the network for ethernet, and you then boot the machine with a wireless receiver and no ethernet cable, wlan0 (or whatever) is not automatically detected in the same way as when configuring the network for the first time. Presumably that's just how wicd is designed, in which case it's the only weakness in its lovely granny-proof interface (which, for instance, takes you directly to where you need to enter the passphrase, if this is missing, instead of just spewing out an error message).
Re: 13.2 beta wireless problem - network not detected
I run into this issue with WICD myself and like you simple add wlan0 in the WICD preferences..I solved this by telling wicd that the wireless interface is wlan0 in "Preferences". But isn't the whole point of wicd to detect this automatically? It's got eth0 under "Wired", alright, and indeed, this worked without a hitch.
This happens for me with the 5100AGN wifi and the RLT8192se_pci Wifi.
I just learn to expect it. BTW the same issue on each OS Debian or Slack

Slackware ( Manjaro ) Salix, AntiX, Bunsen, Calculate
Re: 13.2 beta wireless problem - network not detected
Idem, I have a netbook with only a wireless chip, and I have to setup wicd before being able to connect to WWW.
