Laptop cpu fan

I have installed Salix 13.1.2.64 bit on my new Toshiba laptop. The problem I have now is that when the cpu fan starts to work it stays working for a long long time. I never could find a solution and never solve it as I install Linux on all my laptops. Does anyone have any ideas on the solution?

Perhaps you can control it with lm_sensor's fancontrol?

The sensors_detect only tells me the temperature of the cpu although I'm having some trouble in making a config file for fan control.
