google earth, lsb-core

Post by wackpanther »

Hi
I'm a beginning salix user.
Recently, I tried to install google earth. After locating a .bin file and installing successfully, I get an error trying to run it.
./googleearth: line 18: /home/jackson/google-earth/googleearth-bin: No such file or directory
./googleearth: line 18: /home/jackson/google-earth/googleearth-bin: Success
This exact error appeared on a forum, with the solution being to install lsb-core.
Here's the command that's supposed to do that:
# apt-get install lsb-core
or
sudo apt-get install lsb-core
But the command 'apt-get' cannot be found.
Can anyone tell me how I can install this package, or otherwise fix my error?
thanks!

I'm afraid you're following the wrong approach to installing Google Earth. The instructions you're attempting to follow apply to a Debian-based Linux distribution, which SalixOS is not.

Google Earth is already packaged, ready for installation, in the SalixOS package repositories. As you're new I'd suggest you use the GUI package installer - Gslapt. If you don't know how to use it, read the Salix Startup Guide which is installed with SalixOS and for which a link is put on every users' desktop.

If you don't understand these instructions or have trouble when following them, reply here and I'll help as best i can.
