I just wanted to make a note that I have successfully installed Google Chrome on a fresh SalixOS 13.37 installation, using a script provided with Slackware 13.37. If you go to a Slackware mirror you'll find a directory /extras/google-chrome which contains a script to repackage a Google Chrome release from a DEB package into a Slackware package which you can then install with installpkg. I have used it successfully and am now happily running Chrome. In addition to the Google Chrome package I had to install libpam and seamonkey-solibs packages as these were dependencies.
I haven't done a lot of testing as yet but generally web browsing etc is working fine. My only question is whether or not things like video playback will work.
Of course this is Google Chrome, not Chromium so it may not suit everyone but I'm happy to have it installed via an "official" method. I'll now spend some time working out how to get Chromium installed instead.

JRD - Yes, I meant Chromium, of course, not Chrome. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I have edited my original post to refer to Chromium.
I have also successfully run Chromium on 13.1.2 but it wasn't from an official Salix OS repository and I believe that using the 3rd-party repository caused me more problems that it solved. Anyway I'm going to try some other approaches and see what results I get.

chromium-9.0.597.107-i486-1_SBo-tgz.
One dependency was yasm, which I found in Gslapt. I installed chromium , with
#installpkg chromium-9.0.597.107-i486-1_SBo-tgz and all working fine
if any one wants it, can email it , since can not get my had around adding to repo system
