Skype in 64bit

Post by NanoSurfer »

Hey guys

I am in a situation, I decided to install Salix on my laptop for work. I could not install the 32 bit version? It only picked up the 64 bit version and proceeded to the installation process. No matter what i did, my laptop refused to boot into the 32 bit version but I know the cd is ok cause i used it on my 32 bit P4 desktop at home. I am using an IBM T60.

My problem is that I desperately need Skype to chat to my clients but IT DOES NOT WORK ON 64 BIT!!!

I have searched how to install it using multilib but the process seems so confusing! is there no easier way to do this or where can i find a detailed step by step doc on how to do this? Please help me as I do not want to delete Salix but I will have to if I cant get Skype to work!

I'm desperate, I hate Skype as much as you do but I need it

The only way to install skype under a 64bit system is to install multilib. It's not the easiest task and it will not get easier. If you really want skype (or wine for that matter) the easiest thing to do is just install a 32bit system. Since you don't provide any details on what went wrong with your 32bit installation, I can't help you there.

And "PLEASE HELP!!" is: 1. rude (why are you shouting?), 2. not descriptive of your problem at all. Please pick a better title next time.

Wow Gapan

Thanks for nothing!

First off, 1) I was desperate. I spent the whole night trying to sort Skype out and only went to bed past 02:30. I was not rude!!! If I wanted to be rude, trust me I could have been rude! And for your information, I have been nothing but overly friendly in all my posts!

2) What the hell do you expect somebody who is desperate and a total noob to say??? Were you born a Linux guru?

I do not know why I cant install the 32 bit version, it is the same with openSUSE. Will only let me install (or read) the 64bit disk?? I don't know why

Because of your attitude (which I think is rude) and total un-helpfulness, I decided to install openSUSE 64bit rather and had a much easier time setting up. After a few tinkering here and there, I got multilib installed and it is all setup and I am much happier. Why couldn't you just help me to set that up instead of criticizing me? Sorry if I offended you and even bothered asking for help. Cheers

Very mature response. After searching for hours to try and solve the problem myself, I hit a dead end after dead end and I tried EVERYTHING I could think of! I would not have asked for help if I could have helped myself. Like I said, sorry for asking. Good luck to you too

We are not sitting in front of our computers waiting for people asking for help and be happy to be talked like this.
We are _not_ a hotline, paid to help people. We do it kindly, to help, but don't expect to have some help if you're rude. And your _are_ rude, saying you're not doesn't change anything.
