Fluxbox-13.37 with xfce4-panel
I installed xfce4-xkb-plugin and added the applet to the panel. The default layout is US. I added
German (qwerty) and the applet duly changes the flags when clicked on, however, in German the
KB does not render the German characters in a urxvt terminal, the curser does not move. The
German characters, however, to show in xterm, this posting and in abiword.
I removed the applet, rebooted to no avail the KB is screwded-up with urxvt terminal.
Before this xkb-plugin venture urxvt did render German characters when changed with the
'setxkbmap de' command. Not anymore.
How to resolve?
xfce4-xkb-plugin trouble
Re: xfce4-xkb-plugin trouble
It is a problem with urxvt and some other terminals. If the xkb-plugin works with other programs (Firefox, Libreoffice, Mousepad etc), it works. My solution to it was to use either XFCE Terminal or Sakura.
Re: xfce4-xkb-plugin trouble
Just to set matters straight:
Before I installed xfce4-xkb-plugin, urxvt did show characters others then US correctly
when command 'setxkbmap ??' was given. That feature got lost after invoking xfce4-xkb-plugin.
To check I just booted into a live CD of another linux distro, installed rxvt-unicode and urxvt does show
correct characters of other keyboard settings just like before in this box of Salix Fluxbox-13.37.
I will install later in that live CD distro xfce4-xkb-plugin and sees what will happen.
I uninstalled rxvt-unicode and reinstalled the feature is still lost.
I have no problem using other terminals in fact by birth I am an xtermer.

Re: xfce4-xkb-plugin trouble
I tried it out, no problems here, I used both the xkb-plugin and the command setxkbmap, urxvt dispalys all languages tried (Latvian, Russian, Polish, German, Swedish, Czech) properly. Note, I used the option to change globally.
So I do not have a clue....

Re: xfce4-xkb-plugin trouble
I forgot that I have live Salix xfce4 CD.
Booted it. Installed rxvt-unicode and kbx-plugin applet. All worked perfectly with different
languages rendered by urxvt both with command or applet invoked.
I noticed that on the live CD the Keyboard-Model is set to something starting with E. Can't see
it in my xkb applet where the KB-Model space is blank.
So what could the problem be in my Fluxbox. Is it the KB-Model setting?
PelleB which version of Salix are you using?

Re: xfce4-xkb-plugin trouble
Salix 13.37 Xfce 16-bit, but I use Fluxbox nearly all the time (I tried the xkb-plugin using Xfce though). I did set the keyboard type to 105-key international, after the xkb-plugin had crashed.
In Fluxbox I made menu entries for setxkbmap, in that way I also may choose between more than four different layouts.
