Virtualbox is no problem. They provide x86_64 binaries.

Probably you are missing something. You can go to init 3 and start LXDE by hand: startx /usr/bin/startlxde Have a look at the error messages then.

Better buy a SSD ;) I never had exciting results with preload.

For virtualbox, I used the download for all versions of linux, but that seems to be just 32 bit. which one would you use for 64 bit?

I ran startx /usr/bin/startlxde

All looked good, until

(EE) failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
cp: cannot stat '/usr/share/lxde/pcmanfm/pcmanfm.conf': No such file or directory
/usr/bin/startlxde: line 43: /usr/bin/lxsession: no such file or directory
/usr/bin/startlxde: line 43: exec: /usr/bin/lxsession: cannot execute: No such file or directory
xinit: connection to X server lost

Use the AMD64 one for all distributions ;) http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

It seems you are missing most LXDE packages (lxsession, pcmanfm,...). Please see: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/H ... stall_LXDE

ok, now I just did an install of lxde 64. Just to see if it makes a difference. All I can say is this is much faster than kde 32, and even faster than lxde 32. Although lxde 32 may have been slowed down a little by having all the kde stuff installed.

I am having a problem finding the multimedia for lxde. In KDE I found a kde multimedia package.

I finally found the codecs installer, but it didn't install flash.

I just noticed the link to flash on page one... got it working great now. I actually like LXDE 64 a lot. It is very fast, and everything seems to work great.
