3 problems (or more) [solved]

Post by Oracle911 »

1) I have installed 2 layouts, i need sometimes quickly switch between them and i need show which one is on (i forgot how set it). How i should do it?
2) I really need install programs for Linux, which are not included in Salix packages. How i should do it?
3) The big problem is, i cant upgrade Salix from 13.1 to 13.37, i tried it by command line (i hope its the correct phrase), well it failed. So any suggestions?
I`m a chemist, please be patient.

I don't need this myself. But there are various tools for this kind of stuff. E.g. I think there's xfce-panel plugin. But there are other users actively using such functionality which probably can help you better.

There are various possibilities: slapt-src, creating your own build script, 3rd party repos (with their downsides), compiling from source with/without a tool to track installed files like paco, ....
In any case you can also try to request a package or SLKBUILD in appropriate section of the forum.

Obviously you need to be root to edit system files.

Honestly Oracle911, seeing your level of expertise, I would advise against trying an upgrade. If you can't find your way around editing a system text file, you will almost likely end up with a huge mess. If you want to do the upgrade in order to learn and gain some insight on your system, then by all means go ahead. But if you're likely to get frustrated if your system won't work in any way after the upgrade, then just don't.

Upgrade successful, thank you Shador, but some icons are missing.

Has any body solutions to my 2 other problems?
