I have an old pentium iv (2ghz cpu, 512mb ram, onboard graphics sis 661gx) that runs salix 13.37. I'm using the lxde variant but I want to run xfce instead. What's keeping me is the subtle difference in the way xorg (I suspect) is set up in both. When using lxde , firefox scrolling (using up/down arrow keys) is quite smooth. In xfce, however, firefox scrolling lags and stutters.
I'm not asking for tips on tweaking xorg.conf but on the how the xorg packages themselves are set up and how they differ on lxde and xfce variants so I can make adjustments.
Thanks for your help.
Firefox slow scrolling - xorg problem
Re: Firefox slow scrolling - xorg problem
There is absolutely nothing different. The only thing I can think of that may be causing something like this, is that you may have enabled the compositor in xfce (it's disabled by default).
Re: Firefox slow scrolling - xorg problem
Thanks for the quick answer gapan. I guess I'm stuck with lxde. I use this box mostly for web browsing (using firefox of course) even though it's a full desktop install. Salix is absolutely fantastic. Thanks gapan and the rest of the devs for this amazing distro.
