No it's a client. You can have mpd install wherever you want. On another computer for example. So for me it's normal it's not a direct dependancy. Correct me if I'm wrong ;-)

OFF TOPIC: Is it safe to listen to remote streams directly with MPD (something tells me that this is a super newbie question)
